Frequently Asked Questions
Are they birdhouses?
No, the cottages are simply whimsical homes for imaginary garden fairies and gnomes. We do make birdhouses but they are much smaller than our cottages.
Wild birds will not nest in them, nor will rats and squirrels.
Are they toys? Can children play with them?
No. Apart from opening and closing the little door, the homes are not built to be played with by children. Stray staples and wood slivers could pose a hazard.
Are they treated?
Generally, no. We have treated some cottages in the past with a water based wood sealant to highlight the woodgrain.
What types of wood are used to build the cottages?
Mainly recycled cedar and pine, but we also use fir. We search many sources for wood to give us a variety of wood grains and colours to choose from. We prefer to use recycled hardware and materials whenever we can.
